Fit or Shit: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick

Fit or Shit is a series by our beauty expert, Thalia Amill, who tests and reviews a variety of makeup products so you Bottle Bitches don’t have to. Sit back, pour up a glass and quickly find out what beauty products are or are not worth your precious time and money.

It is no secret that I am a massive fan of the matte lip and liquid lipstick trend happening right now. There are always at least two different colors from a few different brands in my purse, but I had yet to try those online lippies that can’t be bought in store, such as the ones from Jeffree Star Cosmetics. After a very good friend snagged one for me as a birthday present, I decided to share my experience because there is so much to talk about. Let’s begin!

First impression

The packaging is so cute and even includes Star’s before use tips on the box. Star recommends exfoliating lips first before applying the lipstick and to avoid eating food with oil and even making out. The box also states that the lipstick is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free, which is a major plus. As Star says, makeup is for people, not animals.

The shade I received is called Rose Matter, which the website describes as “neutral coral, like crush petals on your lips,” and the color online looks like a light dusty rose shade. Initially, I thought it would be too pink for my skin tone, but hey, I will never say no to trying a new lipstick!

Some of the lipsticks are infused with a scent, and Rose Matter smells like root beer. Before the artificial smells turn you off, please hear me out. The scent is actually subtle and soft — not too overwhelming.

The consistency is unlike any liquid lipstick I’ve used before. While some liquid lipsticks have a mousse-like whipped texture or are thick and creamy, this lipstick is truly more like a liquid. It goes on so light that I assume the color can’t possibly be as pigmented as it looks without layering on a few coats, but this color pops and is astounding.

When the lipstick dries, the color stays put and settles in the most comfortable lippie I’ve ever worn. This lipstick isn’t drying and it’s not thick — I can’t even feel the miraculous wonder that is Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks. The color looked amazing on me, if I may adIMG_4246d.

Another plus is that the color is very easy to take off. It will stay put as long as you want, but once you want it gone, you are able to wipe it off with ease. No extra scrubbing or exfoliating necessary.

Rating: FIT

This lipstick is fit as fuck! Quality aside, the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick also isn’t too painful on the wallet at $18 per lipstick. I ordered another lipstick and it came out to just under $24, which is great considering most big name brands cost $20 or more.

Star’s products are in high demand, and a lot of times when you visit his website many of the shades are sold out. Don’t worry, though, because he restocks regularly, and if you follow his social media you’ll know first hand when the restocks are.

There are restrictions on purchases, however. You can only buy two of one shade, per month, per person so that people don’t buy out the stock and then try to upsell it for way more. Shout out to Star for thinking of this and looking out for his customers!

I love everything about Rose Matter and I cannot wait to try more from this brand. While I could honestly go on and on about this this, I’ll spare you. You’ll just have to see for yourselves.

Thalia is a modern day Wednesday Addams: rarely smiling and dark clothes, but with great eyebrows, lipstick, and a love for One Direction. In her free time, she can be found inside avoiding the sun with a glass of Rosa Regale, probably either touching up her nose contour or adding more color to her hair to make herself resemble a peacock.
